ADDITIONAL HOTEL ARRANGEMENTS:  If you are still trying to book a hotel room, you may already know that the Marriott is now sold out.  We did some research and have made additional arrangements with another hotel very close by to provide the rest of the WABE attendees with a great room rate.

Please contact the Coast Edmonton House Suite Hotel.  They are offering us a room rate of $119 per night, including one parking stall and complimentary wifi.  This is a suite hotel that has fully equipped kitchens and private balconies.  They are located about 4 blocks from the Shaw Conference Centre, which is a about a 5 minute walk.  They will also provide complimentary shuttle service if you ask for it ahead of time at the front desk.  The address of the hotel is 10205 - 100 Avenue.

President's Message

Summer is finally here!!

Coming off a successful convention in Vancouver, it’s time to start thinking -- and planning for --  the 2011 WABE Convention.

This year, the convention returns to Edmonton and will be held at the Shaw Conference Centre in this city’s beautiful river valley. The Marriott Courtyard is your hotel. And it all happens November 6-8,  2011. Edmonton has always been a great host for WABE,  and we are expecting another very good turnout.

The upcoming year promises to be one of change in our industry, not only from the technology side, but from the broadcast ownership side, with Shaw taking over Canwest’s Global network and, as I write, Bell’s being in front of the CRTC with a proposal for CTV. One thing is for sure: 2011 will be fascinating!

And, so, as I put together the local planning committee, I want to make sure that all the different facets of our business are covered, including Television, Radio, Cable and Telecommunications. If you are in Edmonton and have interest in sitting on the local planning committee, let me know.

Get in touch, stay in touch! Our website will have all the updates. And check out WABE on Facebook (and let’s get that friend count into double digits, at least!) as we dive into the era of social media.
